Parenting Education Treatment Groups

KMT’s Parenting Education Workshops

We offer two Parenting Workshops/ Groups

The first parenting treatment Support Group is for parents offered once a week around issues facing pre teens and teens.  This group is designed to cover topics of anxiety, stress, addictions, communication, learning challenges, attachment, anger, transitional periods related to child development, grief, loss, trauma, divorce and other related parenting concerns.  We also specialize in supporting newcomers that are currently dealing with Canadian laws around appropriate discipline and cultural norms and values faced by parents immigrating to Canada.

Time: Saturdays – 6:30pm – 8:00pm
For: Parents who have children and/pre-teens and teenagers

The second Parenting Treatment Workshop is an eight week training course with certification of completion.

The treatment group will be an eight week program for immigrant mothers of children between the ages of nine to twenty-one years of age.

Topics include:

•           Increasing communication skills between children and their parents.

•           Educate parents on effective parenting skills.

•           Strategies that promote coping with anger and stress.

•           Benefits of structure in a home.

•           Effective balance of personal culture and culture of adopted country.

•           Canadian legislation around parent’s and children’s rights and responsibilities

  • Raising self-confidence in boys and girls
  • Coping with Change and Loss within the family….

At the end of these two parenting treatment programs parents will have -: 1. – Acquired strategies to increase ‘tools in their parenting toolbox’.   2. – To increase awareness of Canadian legislation related to parenting and 3. Have a working understanding of the issues facing children around a variety of diverse topics 

Other areas that will be covered

  • Provide training in Canadian legislation relating to parenting
  • Provide expert guest speakers to address parenting concerns related to parenting boys and parenting girls
  • Provide opportunities for small group work that encourages sharing and mutual support
  • Advocate for unmet needs of immigrant women and their children that may be involved with CAS.

Just remember children do suffer and because of that they risk never reaching their potential and parents remain frustrated and disappointed. Here are just a few of the issues children suffer from:

  • Low Self-love
  • Lack of Confidence
  • Bullying
  • Self-Destructive Behavior
  • Self-Absorption

Any of these issues can start small but left unattended can become quite serious. The good news is these types of issues can be successfully managed or changed with the proper help.
