Karen is a Social Worker based in Oakville, Ontario who has worked with individuals, couples and families of various racial, cultural and religious backgrounds for over 15 years. She founded KMT The Learning Group to acquired over years of experience in the field of psychology, sociology and social work.Karen is passionate about learning and developing therapeutic tools and skills that meet the needs of clients in the area of relationship attachment, trauma, addiction, and mental health, learning disabilities, career and life dissatisfaction. As a therapist she specializes in concurrent disorders that impair the lives of individual, couples and family.

Karen’s personal experiences have granted her insight into the skills needed to build healthy connections with her clients that are transferrable to other relationship-connections in client’s life.Karen has her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters of Social Work degree from McMaster University.

In her studies and in further post-graduate training, she has developed skills in and practices Intergenerational Trauma Treatment Model (ITTM), PTSD, Emotionally Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Systems Theory, Strengths Perspective, Mindfulness Theory, Psychodynamic Therapy, Anti-Oppressive Practice, Relational Life Therapy.

Karen has worked in the psychological field since 2001, and in that time she has received training in psychodignostic, psychoeducational and psychovocational assessment.  She has worked with children and adults diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, Learning Disabilities, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD) and concurrent diagnosis.  Karen has also worked with Acquired Brain Injury/Traumatic Brain Injury individuals.Karen believes that each person is unique and does not try to fit the individual or couple to a theory but rather uses an eclectic approach in applying her training, based on the clients’ needs.

Karen provides counselling at three clinic locations (Oakville, Maple and Ajax) to meet the varying needs of her clientele.

 

Fariba-Beik Fariba Beik
Fariba is a family therapist who provides psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families of all walks of life with diverse ethno-racial, age and gender Variance. Fariba has been providing evaluation/assessment, therapy, and clinical supervision at different mental health settings to individuals at different level of care such as psychiatric hospital, Residential for drugs and alcohol and dual Diagnosis, community mental health agencies, in home and field setting, schools/colleges, outpatient, and private practice clinics.Over the past 26 years of practice, Fariba has gone through various trainings and been certified with a variety of Evidence-Based Practices such as Trauma-Focus-Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Crisis-Oriented-Recovery-Services, Interpersonal-Psychotherapy, Seeking-Safety, Child-Parent-Psychotherapy, Managing and Adaptive Practices, Reflective-Supervision, and several other modalities which would help individuals with specific problems.

The focus of the therapeutic work has been on variety of challenges such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar, loss/bereavement/grief, life transition and human’s natural challenges in adjustment with life changes, pre-and-post adoption (counseling/training/certification), college teaching and counseling, and many other areas of human challenges.

After 22 years of experience working internationally at different Social Services, and community mental health agencies, Fariba went back to school, and started her doctorate program in Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Fariba continued to focus on working with underserved families with children ages birth to 5 years old, and provided Reflective Supervision to clinicians who worked not only as therapists but as human advocators for these vulnerable families. In 2015-16 Fariba enjoyed completing her Internship at San Fernando Community Mental Health agency and focused her work on individual and group practices with underserved older adult population both outpatient and in-home settings.

Fariba is currently working at the most prominent Managed Care Hospitals, Kaiser Permanate in USA as an Outside Medical Liaison. She works with more than 150 listened psychologists, and clinicians who are contracted with the hospitals. Fariba reviews these outside providers’ clinical documents and provides them with ongoing clinical consultation to help them provide the best care to patients.

Fariba is also working at a Private practice office in North Hollywood helping individuals, parents and couples to better their relationships and move towards their mental and emotional wellness.

Fariba’s approach in this field has always been mostly based on consumers-centered, strength-based on a collaborative work that can empower individuals to identify and pull out their internal and external resources to work through their life challenges while strengthening their dignity and self-worth.
